Hear nuclear engineer Arjun Makhijani explain the elements of the nuclear disaster in Japan.

Living on Earth's Steve Curwood and Bruce Gellerman catch up with Arjun Makhijani, President of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research.Dr. Makhijani explains how the nuclear waste problem is key to the disaster. He also raises questions about whether the earthquake damaged piping and pumps at the power station, rendering it impossible to control even if there had been adequate back up power to run the cooling systems.
