SEGMENTS

Clearing the Air in Mexico City / Bebe Crouse

Reporter Bebe Crouse profiles Mexican environmental activist Luis Manuel Guerra. Among Mexico's most well-known figures, Guerra has been on a seven-year crusade to clean up Mexico City's notoriously polluted air. An outspoken critic of the Mexican government, Guerra also blames the city's residents for the problem, which recently reached emergency proportions. (08:35)

Water War Heats Up

Steve talks with reporter Maia Krache of member station KQED in San Francisco about the latest chapter in California's water crisis. Recently federal water suppliers announced a total cutoff of water to some seven thousand farmers, only to partially reverse itself two weeks later. Krache says debate over the future of the Golden State's water system is reaching a crucial stage. (05:36)

Alta California -- The 51st State? / Claire Green

Claire Green reports on the movement in northern California to secede from the nation's largest state. The movement is fueled by what many northerners see as a lack of control of their water, resources and economy. An advisory question on the issue will be on some county ballots this spring. (06:21)
